Stay Focused

A word from the wise!

The Book of Matthew, Chapter 6, Verse 22 says that "The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light." This scripture is a constant reminder to stay focused. The ability to be one with our higher consciousness is what this journey in the Spirit is all about. If we are not focused by seeking first the kingdom, we remain vulnerable to the negativity in our midst: the people who get on our nerves, the situations that don't go the way we want them to, the mishaps along the path that we thought was obstacle free. If our eye is not single in its focus, we will find ourselves forgetting that the Master is not limited by the physical but is the omnipotent spiritual realm. If our eye is not single, we are more likely to multiply our errors, lose our perspective, and do foolish things. We are more likely to say what we later regret. We are more likely to waste time that could have been well spent. We are more likely to act out of negative emotions rather than with confidence and purpose. When we fail to keep our focus on Spirit, we find ourselves like that beggar on the roadside -- blinded by our lack of faith. Remember what Jesus told the blind man? Jesus said your faith has made you whole. The blind man's own faith had made him see. If our eye is single, our whole body shall be full of light. But if we are not centered in the light, our direction, our intuition, our divine compass will be off, and we will find ourselves stumbling in the darkness. The scales did not fall from Saul's eyes until he began to see through an enlightened consciousness of Christ. If we fail to quiet ourselves enough to listen to the Holy Spirit, then our focus will be scattered, and we will find ourselves banging into walls from our spiritual blindness. Spirit is the light that unifies us in consciousness and centers us in our divine nature. In Eric Butterworth's book, The Creative Life, he says that in the book of Genesis, when God said let there be light, it means the whole of God light is present in its entirety at the point at which we are: that is the spiritual light which guides our entire being. Thich Hhat Hanh, a Buddhist monk, says that when we are centered in Spirit, we do not only visualize the body of God but see that we are a part of it. Parmahansa Yogananda, who was Hindu, says that when we practice looking deeply into the third eye, we behold the whole body, the physical and the spiritual body, filled with God's light emanating from cosmic vibration. When we center in this divine light, we open our spiritual eye, our inner eye, our third eye to the presence of Spirit, and our entire being -- mind, body and soul -- is filled with light. It is in this consciousness that we stay focused. There is much work to be done. As God's divine expressions of being, it is up to us to strengthen our communities with love, rather hatred and division. It is up to us to seize the day with a new prophetic vision. It is up to us to listen and know that the wisdom of the ages is guiding us into success in every endeavor. It is up to us to stand up in this single purpose, knowing that the time for change has come.
